Fraction are Fun!

Kindergarten is learning Fractions. Morah Dawn introduced the lesson by showing us a whole pizza. The pizza was then divided in half. The same was done with a popsicle. We learned that when something is divided in half, it is split into two equal pieces. Morah Dawn gave us various shapes and asked us to divide them in half. Then, we colored one half of each shape. We had so much fun!

Good MIDDOS! Good CHARACTER TRAITS!

It is very important to come to school and learn, but we don't only come to learn academics. In Kindergarten, we take time to learn and raise awareness of some very important good Middos (character traits).

Lately, we have been discussing the Midda of "EMES" - being honest and saying the whole truth. We made puppets shows about the concept and really worked on showing the children how important it is to stick to the truth. We don't only do it because it is important but rather because it is the right, upstanding way to live and the Torah expects it from us.

We have also been learning about the good Midda called "HAKORAS HATOV" - being appreciative of the things people do for us and remembering to say thank you. This idea directly links into the concept of being thoughtful and sensitive towards the people around us. Do those words sound familiar? Yes, that is the Mitzva note we have been sending into school for the past week and this week - "My thoughtful Mitzva Note". Please remember to send a Mitzva note in to class as often as you can. Thanks you!

Shabbos Party!

Today, as we were walking into our classroom, one student turned to me and said: "Morah, I can't wait for Friday because I love Shabbos party!"

Shabbos party has definitely become a major highlight of our week. We look forward to sitting around a big Shabbos table together, singing our favorite Shabbos songs and doing as many Shabbos mitzvos as we can. Oh! And how can we forget about eating a delicious Shabbos treat.

We started learning the new Nekudah of PATACH!

"PATACH ALEF AH" - this is one of the many sounds that you would hear when passing our beautiful kindergarten classroom. Check out the pretty komatz and patach puppets we made in class! It was loads of fun and it is a very useful tool to help us differentiate the two very similar sounds.

Please remember to do homework properly so we can move smoothly ahead in learning to read Hebrew.

Our Plants Part 2

Nina's plant grew over vacation! How exciting to come back and see how much progress our plants have made. We continue to make sure our plants get plenty of sunshine and water in order to grow.

Show & Tell!

Kindergarten brought in various objects for Show & Tell. Ariella G. brought in a cloth that she sewed a picture of a cat in a basket, Sara brought in her American Girl doll, Avi brought in a doctor set, Daniel R. brought in a game that reviews the concept of money, Daniel O. brought in the book, "The Ugly Duckling", Manuella brought in a mask and Ariella M. brought in her Dora doll. Each child showed their object and spoke about it for a few minutes. We had the opportunity to play the game and read the book that was brought in. We had so much fun!

Our Trip to the Subway!

We have learned so much about the Subway system in our Social Studies class. Kindergarten had the opportunity to visit our local train station. We spoke to a teller, bought tickets and took a ride on the train. You should have seen some of the sights we saw! We passed Coney Island and saw all of the rides and game booths! Morah Dawn explained that people travel to various places by car, boat, train and plane. We know there are many different trains and each has a number or letter on it to differentiate each one and where they are traveling to. Kindergarten took a look at a subway map on the train and even received their very own to take home from the teller. What a fun and educational trip!
