We hope everyone had a nice and inspiring Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur! We are looking forward to another great week at school! We started our school year off getting to know each of our friends and even celebrating two of their birthdays! Each of us helped bake their birthday cakes.
We are beginning our phonics lessons, reviewing capital and lower case letters, "Bb" and "Ss". We use many hands on activities such as stamps, puzzles, and so much more to review. We started our handwriting unit with "F" and even learned a fun song and dance to show us the correct way to write it.
Would you believe that we have 11 scientists in our classroom? We even got to make our own thinking caps that we put on before each lesson. We have spoken about what a scientist is and all the steps they do to come to conclusions. We also started our animal unit and discussed where various animals live (such as water, land and sky).
We've begun our math unit on measurements. Our friends are learning to measure using various objects. Ask them to measure something in your house using paper clips.
Kindergarten has also spent a lot of time preparing for Yom Kippur. We created our very own Yom Kippur guides, learned new songs, visited the synagogue and much much more! We also got an excellent review of the first four letters in the Alef-Beis; alef, beiz, veiz, and gimmel. We learned the sounds of every letter, what it is called and how to shape it. All of this was accomplished through fun, hands on activities.
As part of our preparation for Yom Kippur we all got to experience the custom of 'kappores' - we said a special prayer to Hashem and then donated the chicken to poor people.
Every morning before we start our day, we take some time to Daven to Hashem. We really enjoy singing all the songs we know and cant wait to learn more!
